I know of one nurse and one anaeshtetist who have had reactions of varying degrees to the cement fumes. I also know of a staff member who had to have their contact lenses surgically removed following the results of their interaction with the cement fumes.
We have trialled many closed systems over the years but we too are having difficulty getting the surgeons to agree on one system. This topic is of great concern to myself as I have a number of pregnant staff (nursing and medical) who I also do not wish to place in these theatres if I can help it due to the unknown effect of the fumes on the unborn babes.
