During the recent Medical device Incident reporting Committee meeting - the subject of theatre nurses reactions to cement mix fumes was raised as a result of a report of anaphylaxis. I reported to the meeting that this was not uncommon and even though enclosed cement mixing systems were on the market that orthopaedic surgeons were reluctant to use them.
I would like to receive feedback please on the number of periop nurses out there who have or know of staff who have reacted to these fumes and whether or not your surgeons support the use of these enclosed mixing systems?
