Being a Perioperative Nurse has been an exciting ride. I have
been working in the Operating Rooms for over twenty years and they have
all been exciting. I am well experienced in scrubbing, circulating,
anaesthetics and post anaesthetic nursing care.
After completing a
perioperative course I felt very comfortable as a Perioperative Nurse.
Part of my work was assisting the surgeon, which allowed me to
contribute directly to patient care. Several years ago I travelled to
and worked in the United States as an agency nurse. During this I
worked on the liver transplant team doing multi-visceral transplants
lasting up to 36 hours. I also trained and worked as a Registered Nurse
First Assistant in Delaware, USA. Since returning to Australia, I have
been involved with the Pacific Islands Project to hep deliver ENT
surgical care in the Marshall Islands and Tonga. I have also used my
experience to become a Specialist Reservist in the Air Force. My latest
exciting foray was to go with the Post Tsunami Relief Team to the
Maldives. There are many exciting opportunities in the Perioperative
field and I would encourage those who can to participate. |
