Jenny HorwoodCompleted Enrolled nurse training at the QEH in 1975.

Had various nursing jobs over my career but in 1999, after an absence of 24 years, decided to take up the challenge and return to the acute care setting .

My area of clinical practice at the QEH became Anaesthetic nursing. This encompasses general theatres, ECT , code blue attendances and all forms of remote anaesthesia within the hospital complex. This has allowed me an enormous scope for personal and professional development. Since joining the anaesthetic nursing department in 1999 I have completed the Introduction to Anaesthetic nursing at the RAH in 2001 and in 2003 Advanced anaesthetics and Recovery room nursing also at the RAH. Anaesthetic interests include Cricoid Pressure, Fiberoptics and Regional blockade. Winner of the Nursing Excellence award for Acute Care Enrolled Nurse in 2003.  Member of SAPNA since 2001.

Strong patient advocate which led me to become involved in the Department of Health's Pressure Ulcer Prevention Practices Integrated into Evidence (PUPPIES) group, focusing on pressure area management strategies for the operating theatre. Now a member of the QEH's  Pressure Area Care Risk Assessment Team. Currently studying for the Diploma of Nursing - Post Enrolment.
