Grants and awards
ACORN supports its members and perioperative nursing by offering financial support for professional development and acknowledging outstanding contributions to the image of perioperative nursing and the perioperative profession.
ACORN is committed to encouraging and supporting research into perioperative nursing practice. Through research perioperative nurses can adopt best practice based on current evidence. ACORN understands that research takes time, commitment and funds and so we offer an annual research grant of up to $20 000.
If you are a master’s or doctorate research student, a member of a research team or a beginning researcher you are eligible to apply for the ACORN Research grant. Applications for the 2018 Research grant close on 31 January 2018. The application form will be available to download from this page from the end of July.
Financial assistance grants
The ACORN financial assistance grants are intended to support the learning of perioperative nursing members. Financial assistance may be awarded for a number of educational activities, including presenting papers and attendance at conferences or similar and engaging in charitable work, such as volunteering to work with aid groups.
- To provide financial assistance for nurses to develop higher level skills related to the practice of perioperative nursing;
- To assist with projects that will enhance perioperative nursing competence; or
- To assist with national and international conference attendance.
The amount of the grant is determined by the annual budget and shall not exceed $2000.00
Award of Merit
The Award of Merit is presented by the board to an individual who has demonstrated significant achievements and a commitment to the advancement of perioperative nursing. The nominee must have current full membership of their state or territory Local Association.
The award is given periodically at the discretion of the board and presented in the form of a certificate.
- Candidates for the Award of Merit can be nominated by a Local Association or by the ACORN board.
- Nominations should be sent as a letter outlining the nominee's achievements.
- The ACORN board will determine whether the nominee will receive the award by vote.
Local Association Life Membership
ACORN will provide a certificate of recognition to a member who has been awarded life membership of their Local Association on written notification to ACORN by the Local Association.

Excellence in Perioperative Nursing Awards
Excellence in Perioperative Nursing (EiPN) awards are presented to ACORN members who have made an outstanding contribution to perioperative nursing.
The awards are of high profile recognition with no monetary value.
The awards are presented at the biennial national conference.
Nominations are made by a Local Association or by the ACORN board.
