Membership of ACORN

Australian College of Operative Room Nurses (ACORN) represents the professional interests of the perioperative nurse in Australia.

The specialties currently available for nursing membership include:
  • Anaesthetic nurses
  • Operating Room nurses
  • Postanaesthesia Recovery nurses
  • Preadmission Clinic nurses
  • Day of Surgery Admission nurses
  • Day Surgery nurses
  • Acute Pain nurses
Membership Categories
  • There are currently four categories of Membership of the College
  • Perioperative nurses who are financial members of a state or territory Local Association Overseas
  • Perioperative Nurse members who apply to the College for membership
  • Affiliate members who apply to the College for membership
  • Fellowship of the College
ACORN Perioperative Nursing Membership
All financial members of the local State and Territory perioperative associations are also members of ACORN. Therefore for nurses working in a perioperative environment in Australia, membership of ACORN is achieved through initial membership of their State or Territory perioperative nursing association (listed below).

This category entitles the member to all the benefits of full membership which include:
  • Discount member rates for conferences Four ACORN Journals per year
  • Access to Members Area of ACORN website Access to grants
  • Access to the ACORN Corporate QANTAS Club rates Entitlement to wear the ACORN stole
  • Full voting rights

Overseas Perioperative Nurse Members
Perioperative Nurses working outside of Australia can apply to ACORN for Overseas Membership.
The benefits for Overseas Members include:
  • Discount member rates for conferences
  • Four ACORN Journals per year
  • Access to Members Area of ACORN website
  • Access to ACORN Corporate QANTUS Club rates
  • Entitlement to wear the ACORN stole

Completed application forms are sent to the ACORN secretariat to be collated, and listed for ratification by the Board.
Membership commences on the date of ratification by the Board, and is for 12 months.
Overseas members will receive a welcome letter advising membership has been ratified, a tax invoice, and a complimentary copy of the current ACORN Journal.
A renewal invitation notice will be sent to the nominated address two months prior to membership expiry.

AFFILIATE MEMBERS
Affiliate membership is open to:
  • Industry Representatives
  • Sterilising Service Managers
  • Data Managers in the perioperative environment
  • Other individuals as determined by the ACORN Board
Affiliate members are entitled to benefits which include:
  • Discount member rates for conferences
  • Four ACORN Journals per year
  • Access to the ACORN Corporate QANTAS Club rates
