ACORN Education grant

The ACORN education grants are intended to support ACORN member’s learning. Financial assistance may be awarded for a number of educational activities, including presenting papers and attending conferences or similar events, and engaging in charitable work such as volunteering to work with aid groups.

 Applicants will be notified of the outcome as soon as possible after each assessment period. Please note that the Education grants are not for attending the ACORN virutal conference series. To apply for assistance to attend this please apply for the Conference attendance scholarship.

How much is the grant?

The maximum amount of financial assistance awarded is $1,250.

Financial assistance will be provided as reimbursement for costs or as direct payment to an organisation, e.g. for registration. No cash sum will be given to the applicant without evidence of payment.

ACORN will confirm financial assistance in principle for successful applicants to allow them to engage with the costs of the educational activity with confidence.

What does the grant cover?

The grant is awarded to cover costs directly associated with conference registration, travel to and/or accommodation while attending an education event. 

Applications for costs associated with formal qualifications will be considered if the qualifications are directly related to the perioperative environment.

Applications must be submitted before attendance at the event. Retrospective applications will not be considered.

Who can apply?

If you are a current ACORN member and have been a member continuously for at least two years you are eligible to apply. However, if you have received an ACORN Education grant in the last three years you will not be eligible to receive the grant.

The assessment committee will take into account your commitment to activities organised by your state or territory perioperative nursing association and ACORN activities.

If your application is successful:

  • you must submit a report about the funded activity no later than eight weeks after attending the activity. The report may be up to 1500 words and photos may be included. At the discretion of the Journal Committee, the report may be published in the Journal of Perioperative Nursing and/or on the website.
  • you must agree to acknowledge the financial support awarded by ACORN at appropriate times e.g. at the beginning of a presentation
  • you must agree to have your name and state published in the journal and/or on the ACORN website.

How to apply

Complete the online application form and submit it at any time. Applications will be assessed at the close of applications 1 March 2023. Applicants will be notified of the outcome as soon as possible after each assessment period. You must submit evidence of the educational activity for which assistance is being sought (e.g. a brochure, the link to the website) or, where applicable, a copy of the letter confirming your abstract has been accepted and a copy of the abstract. You must also submit a table of expenses and quotes or receipts for relevant expenses.



The ACORN board wishes you every success in regards to your application but would like to remind you to explore all other possible sources of financial assistance. Financial assistance to attend an educational event is granted, at the discretion of the ACORN board and no correspondence will be entered into.
