General Information
ACORN is very excited to announce the introduction of the ACORN Education Streams. The purpose of these streams is to create a clear structure for the ACORN Education portfolio and its products and services. In creating these streams it was essential that we maintained the ACORN Education vision of ensuring holistic perioperative education is provided to our members and the wider perioperative community. We have such a diverse cohort of perioperative nurses, at varied stages of their careers, and we want to ensure that all ACORN members are included and can easily find the relevant information pertinent to their stage of perioperative practice. To stay up to date with what is happening in ACORN Education, visit the ACORN Education news tab of the Education dropdown menu.
In 2022, ACORN Education is excited to launch the new ACORN Education Learning Platform!
To access the ACORN Education Learning Platform, simply go to ACORN Education Learning Platform. From here, you can sign in, create an account, and view the catalog of courses available. To enrol in a course, select the course from the catalog menu and select 'register', and follow the prompts.
We know that accessibility to education is a big priority for our ACORN members. This learning platform allows for live interactions and self paced modules and courses. A large amount of consideration and analysis was undertaken to select the most appropriate learning platform that would be able to facilitate ACORN Education in both the short and long term needs of the strategic plan. As the peak perioperative nursing representative body, we wanted to ensure that we were providing high quality education for our members, and the wider perioperative community. We wanted to provide a rigorous, reliable and relevant education suite of CPD modules, short and long courses, and self-paced education programs available to meet your needs.
ACORN will be rolling out education programs from novice – through to advanced practice perioperative nursing. We will have a mixture of self-paced learning modules that you will be able to complete when it suits you, and interactive modules that will include a live component of the course or module. We will be rolling out the programs sequentially so to ensure the smooth implementation of each program, rather than a bulk multi-course roll out. It is a very exciting time for ACORN education, and we want to make sure that it is done correctly, effectively, and is user-friendly for our members. These courses will be available on PC or smart device with a range of clinical and non-clinical courses available. There is also a mobile device app to make your learning even more convenient.
ACORN offers members a wide variety of educational opportunities including webinars, access to grants and scholarships, the University of Tasmania (UTAS) member benefit for postgraduate studies and a variety of professional development resources.
ACORN Education regularly posts responses to frequently asked questions (FAQs), to save you time in answering a perioperative education related question. If you are unable to find the answer you need in the FAQs, please submit an enquiry to ACORN Education via the ACORN website > Contact Us > Education enquiry submission, or by clicking here.
ACORN has commenced a number of perioperative Special Interest Groups (SIGs). The purpose of the ACORN SIGs is to combine the expertise and experiences of like-minded perioperative nurses to collaborate, create and support each other with a special interest focus. As the peak professional representative group for perioperative nurses across Australia, ACORN is in the unique position to have the opportunity to create, support and maintain SIGs with the mission of advancing safe, quality perioperative nursing care for Australians.
