ACORN Honorary Fellowship

 

Honorary Fellows are members of eminence who have given exceptional service to perioperative nursing on a national and/or international level, made a noteworthy contribution to the goals of the College at the highest level as well as to the profession of perioperative nursing and/or the wider nursing profession. It is anticipated that conferring Honorary Fellowship will be an exceptional event. Honorary Fellowship is conferred during the biennial ACORN conference.

Fellows and members of the College and local associations may nominate persons for Honorary Fellowship by 31 October in the year preceding the national conference using the following application form.

 

Selection criteria

To be considered, applicants must have demonstrated service to perioperative nursing:

  • through the demonstration of outstanding skills in education, policy, research and/or management.
  • through the demonstration of outstanding clinical skills leading to better patient outcomes
  • at a national and/or international level
  • and the wider professional nursing community.

 

Entitlements of Honorary Fellows

Honorary Fellows of ACORN shall be entitled to:

  • be known as an Honorary Fellow of the Australian College of Perioperative Nurses
  • use the postnominal FACORN
  • be presented with and display the ACORN Honorary Fellowship certificate
  • be presented with and wear the ACORN Fellowship badge
  • purchase, be presented with and wear the ACORN Fellowship regalia
  • be presented as a new ACORN Honorary Fellow in the conferring ceremony at the biennial ACORN conference
  • be eligible to be a member of the ACORN Censor Panel.

Honorary Fellows are not entitled to stand for election as a member of the ACORN Board of Directors, or to vote at any meeting of the College, unless by another means of ACORN membership (ie. Local Association membership, life membership, etc.).

 

Responsibilities of Fellows

Honorary Fellows of the College must uphold the values, mission statement and vision of the College as the peak body representing perioperative nurses nationally and internationally.

 

Termination of Fellowship

The status of Honorary Fellow will be withdrawn if the Fellow:

  • brings disrepute upon themselves, ACORN or perioperative nursing
  • is convicted of a criminal offence.

Applications must be submitted in full by 31 October in an odd year (i.e. the year before an ACORN conference).
