Position Title: Registered Nurse, Theatre 

Location: Mackay Base Hospital  

Remuneration: $3,079.50 to $3,950.00 p.f. | $80,342 to $103,053 p.a. 

Role details 

The Theatre Department at the Mackay Base Hospital is seeking applications for a Registered Nurse to join their team on a temporary and casual basis.

Your opportunity  

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides nursing services within the health service settings; and demonstrates competence in the provision of nursing care as specified by registration requirements, NMBA standards and codes, educational preparation, relevant legislation and context of care. 

As a member of our Perioperative Team, you will perform duties with the support and guidance of your Nurse Unit Manager, Clinical Nurse Consultant, Nurse Educator, Clinical Nurses and Team Leaders to ensure a high level of quality service is provided to our patients throughout their procedures. As a perioperative nurse, you will be responsible and accountable for delivering quality patient focused, evidenced based nursing care providing leadership, direction and support to other nursing staff and students and working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team in the Perioperative Environment. 

About the Team 

The Operating Theatre at the Mackay Base Hospital is a multi-million dollar, state of the art Theatre complex, consisting of 7 theatres, 14 recovery bays, pre-theatre holding bay and numerous meeting rooms plus offices. The department consists of 5 main theatres and 2 procedural/endoscopy rooms, which provide morning and afternoon sessions. There are generally 4-5 theatres running simultaneously and lists include general surgical, orthopaedics, urology, obstetrics and gynaecology, dental, endoscopies/bronchoscopies and Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio-Pancreatography, plus emergencies.

The Role:

The Registered Nurse - Operating Room Suite (ORS):

  • Strengthens health outcomes through the provision of safe, quality, clinically appropriate nursing care, in partnership with patients/clients, their families and other health professionals.
  • Is an integral part of the multidisciplinary perioperative team. The primary focus of the ORS nurse is to provide safe, quality, evidence-based care for patients during the perioperative phase of the surgical journey.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Theatre experience beneficial as an undergraduate or Registered Nurse
  • Experience in Anaesthetic /post anaesthetic care, or scrub scout experience

The Unit:

The LGH Operating Room Suite (ORS) supports a multi-disciplinary model of care where teamwork is the priority. The suite covers a diverse range of surgical specialties making for a dynamic environment, currently providing a service for up to nine theatres. The ORS is experiencing a period of development within the nursing structure to embrace new learners including an effective transition to practice programme for graduates, new learners and undergraduate nursing students. The ORS is supported by an education team including specialty specific Clinical Nurse Educators and clinical coaches to help on board staff that are new to the suite.

The LGH ORS has seamless linkages with a collocated sterilising department, a short stay surgical unit and 2 surgical wards completing the footprint that optimises efficiency and effectiveness and provides a high level of patient care.

Details of Appointment:

Multiple permanent, full time and part time, shift worker positions working up to 76 hours per fortnight commencing as soon as you like to join our team.

Fixed term casual, position working as and when required, commencing soon for a period of 2 years.
