Event description

How many staff does your organisation need to guarantee Australians receive safe, quality perioperative nursing care?

This question is the one most commonly asked by ACORN members and as you can appreciate the answer is never to everyone's satisfaction. So in 2019 ACORN assembled a representative group of Australian perioperative nurses to provide new, current and clear guidance on this issue.

To learn more about their recommendations please join your perioperative colleagues for the next  in our series of the new 2020 ACORN Standards webinars for members – 'Staffing for perioperative safety''

This webinar will be co-presented by Tracy Kerle, Perioperative Nurse Manager, Central Coast Local Health District and Ruth Melville, Safety Officer, Surgical Services, Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service,co-authors of the 2020 Staffing for safety standard included in the 2020 ACORN Standards.

This interactive session will:

  • provide an overview of the new Staffing for safety in the 16th edition of the ACORN Standards
  • consider how this new standard links to the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards and other key public policies
  • detail the processes ACORN used to interrogate the evidence regarding perioperative staffing
  • explore the controversies and various points of view around perioperative staffing
  • discuss the key consensus recommendations and points for practice included in this new professional Standard
  • outline ways in which this standard can be implemented by perioperative nurses
