ACORN launches its first discussion forum
17th February 2020
As Australia's peak body for perioperative nursing in Australia ACORN is pleased to today launch its new Standards Discussion Forum trial. Over the last few years requests for additional information and member dialogue regarding the ACORN Standards for Perioperative Nursing in Australia have increased. Standards-related posts on ACORN's social media platforms frequently generate almost 2000 individual engagement.
Rather than ACORN providing ad-hoc responses to one-off member questions ACORN's leadership see the potential for increasing perioperative nurse-lead discussions and the need to assist Standards' users with their implementation. To assist ACORN's members and stakeholders in those exchanges and to provide a safe place for open dialogue ACORN has invested in the development of a 6-month pilot project during which all non-ACORN initiated discussion about the Standards can be undertaken within the framework of a moderated discussion forum. At this stage ACORN is trialling moderation to protect the integrity of posts and to eliminate any risks of unauthorised trolling or e-activity on the forum. Over time the level of moderation may be reduced.
ACORN 's CEO Rebecca East is particularly excited about today's launch of the Standards Discussion Forum and the trial which will run for six months today advising "if the trial goes well we will be seeking member feedback for additional opportunities to promote perioperative nursing discussion." ACORN's Standard's Discussion Forum is positioned as the "go-to" place to better understand the who, what, when, where, why and how of the ACORN Standards hence its acronym (5W&H).
