ACORN Standards - to be updated to include enrolled nurses
4th September 2023
Thank you to everyone who provided feedback about the recently released 2023 Professional Practice Standards for Perioperative Nurses (PPSPN), specifically the role of the Anaesthesia nurse. We applaud your passion and dedication to the profession.
ACORN directors met recently with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) to discuss the scope of practice and (direct and indirect) supervision related to enrolled nurses in the role of Anaesthesia nurse. I can confirm that, as a result of this consultation and discussion with the NMBA, ACORN will be editing the PPSPN to include enrolled nurses.
The Board of Directors are committed to the ACORN Standards continuing to be our ‘true north’ – contemporary, evidenced-based best practice, relevant and useful to all perioperative nurses whatever their scope of practice – and we encourage ongoing feedback. Please email Diane Harapin at ceo@acorn.org.au if you need further explanation.
ACORN have advertised for the position of Clinical Excellence Coordinator (CEC) – a contemporary revamp of the Standards Officer role. Download the position description and view the advertisement.
ACORN will continue to seek opportunities for further collaboration with our members and key stakeholders moving forward.
Kind Regards
Jessica Pougnault - ACORN Board Chair
