Perioperative Nurses Week 2021
Perioperative Nurses Week (PNW) is ACORN’s week to celebrate our profession, our people and the essential role we play in the health care equation.
PNW 2021
Perioperative Nurses Week 2021 was full of fun, education, competitions and PRIZES!
GLUE Award(s)
The ACORN GLUE award acknowledges a special nurse who keeps the team together like glue. They are Genuine, they make you Laugh, they are Unique and, above all, they show Empathy.
Congratulations to Maree Whyte (nominated by Charmaine Owens). Charmaine said:
Maree Whyte is a quiet achiever and the kind of nurse that I aspire to be! She is knowledgeable, reliable, calm, has impeccable comedic timing, and I always know that it's going to be a great day when she is there.
She also brings us cake regularly, and even started our annual 'Great Theatre Bake Off!' This gives us bragging rights if we are the winner, and is also a fund-raiser. So you can tell that Maree is a wonderful human as well as an amazing nurse!
Maree won a beautiful self-care hamper from Hampers with Bite.
The runner up was Penny Togo (nominated by Emma Louise). Penny won an ACORN merchandise bundle.
Lip Sync Competition
Kylie Gibson and the team at McKay Base Hospital in Queensland won a Rays VR headset and 12 months subscription to anatomy program for posting the video of them all lip syncing to 'We are family' by Sister Sledge.
Rebecca Hobbs and the team at North East Health in Wangaratta, Victoria were runners up and won two dozen ACORN cupcakes for their lip sync video also to 'We are family' by Sister Sledge.
Many thanks to Perrigo for supporting this competition.
Perioperative Fundamentals launch
Fancy footwear
In the perioperative environment, with staff wearing matching outfits, fancy footwear can be a fun, unique, identifying factor. Congratulations to Libby McKenna and Sarah Rolls for posting the faciest footwear we've ever seen! They won footwear vouchers generously donated by Sanita Australia.
Runners up Charmaine Owens, Melissa Hicks, Diann Leplaw, Nikki Rowlands and Louise Armstrong won Sanita sock vouchers.
Periop Mascot Day
It wasn't easy choosing a winner from all the mascots sent in but we decided on Peri the periop mascot at the Blue Mountains District ANZAC Memorial Hospital. Rachel Summerill won two dozen ACORN cupcakes for sending us Peri's photo.
ACORN 3MT competition
The ACORN Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition celebrates the exciting perioperative research conducted by Australian higher degree research students. Erin Wakefield was awarded $1000 for her three-minute presentation about her research into how graduate nurses develop a sense of belonging in the operating theatre. Kasey Irwin was runner up and received an ACORN merchandise pack for her presentation about improving operating room safety and function through more inclusive design.
