Conference venue and host city
The International Convention Centre (ICC Sydney)
ACORN International Conference 2020 will take place at the International Convention Centre (ICC Sydney) right in the heart of Australia’s largest and most iconic city. ICC Sydney is a state of the art conference facility located in the Darling Harbour precinct which overflows with restaurants, shops, entertainment and accommodation options. The venue is just a short walk from Sydney’s most famous landmarks, the Sydney Opera House and harbour bridge, and just eight km from Sydney’s international and domestic airport (just half an hour on the train). There are many other places worth exploring also within walking distance including the Sydney central business district, Royal Botanic Gardens, Museum of Contemporary Art and Sydney Aquarium.
The city of Sydney
Sydney, the capital of the state of New South Wales, is blessed with natural beauty. The harbour, along with its many secluded beaches, rocky cliffs and natural bushland, is a stunning centrepiece to the city. On the eastern edge of the city lies the Pacific Ocean with its endless swell and curving beaches including the most famous of all, Bondi Beach. The harbour, ocean and beaches in and around the city offer almost limitless opportunities for swimming, surfing, sailboarding, boating, fishing, water-skiing, sun-bathing or just relaxing by the water. Beautiful national parks surround the city, including the Blue Mountains to the west, Ku-Ring-Gai Chase to the north and Royal National Park to the south. Opportunities for cultural experience abound too – Sydney Opera House is the cultural heart of Sydney, offering opera, ballet, drama and film, while many varied venues and galleries offer live music and art. Nearby also is the ‘Rocks’ area, site of the original white settlement, and many other places of historic interest. Further afield, regional New South Wales offers the lure of food and wine regions like the famous Hunter Valley and the chance to explore sub-tropical rainforests, rugged mountain peaks and the vastness of the great Outback.
